Sunday marked the 100th anniversary of the birth of the only U.S. president to be born in Omaha. Gerald Ford was born Leslie King Jr. on July 14, 1913.

A wreath-laying ceremony was held at his tomb in Grand Rapids, Michigan where he grew up.

Ford served as vice president from 1973-1974 and was sworn-in as the 38th president following Richard Nixon's resignation August 9, 1974. He left office in January 1977 after losing to Jimmy Carter in the 1976 election.

Ford died in 2006 at the age of 93. The Gerald R. Ford Birthsite and Gardens is located at 3202 Woolworth Avenue, the site of the home where Ford was born.
