Students Help Clean Up Storm Damaged Parks

Clean up continues at several Omaha parks hit hard by Monday's storm.

Students involved in the SummerWorks program were out in force Tuesday helping clean up Gallagher Park at 52nd and Maple. Branches, limbs and entire trees were down across the park.

The students hauled branches and limbs to the sidewalk at the edge of the park so city crews could pick them up.

SummerWorks is a 9-week program designed to provide students ages 15 to 18 the skills they need to get a keep a job.

“It's actually hard working, and it's a new experience because this is my first job,” said 15-year-old Deandre Gaines. “SummerWorks. They provide us the money, the necessities that we need. And we come out here and help the community.”

SummerWorks students also helped pick up storm debris Tuesday In Hanscom Park at 32nd Ave. and Center.
