There is a war going on at Carriage Hill Elementary School in Papillion. A penny war. Students are collecting pennies to help support the Food Bank of the Heartland.
Each class has a milk jug set up in their classroom to collect pennies, nickles, dimes quarters or dollars.
The classroom with the most money at the end of the drive will win a pizza party from Woodhouse auto.
"We work on 40 developmental assets in our district and one of those is empowerment. We're helping them to learn that every little bit makes a difference. Every penny counts in the situation to help a needy kid," said teacher, Brenda Martin
The penny war ended Friday. In all, 22 classrooms participated.
