Otterbein University's Dominic Porretta won the online vote for this year's fan's choice award that recognizes athletes who excel away from baseball.

TD Ameritrade says Porretta beat 14 other finalists in the online competition.

Porretta pitched for Otterbein and was named to the All-Ohio Athletic Conference team. But the award is more about his community service.

Porretta has been friends with an autistic classmate since high school, and that inspired him to get involved with the Autism Society of Ohio, The Miracle League and other groups. He also led Otterbein's athlete advisory committee.

Porretta graduated with a degree in journalism and plans to pursue a master's degree at Ohio State University.

TD Ameritrade will recognize Porretta at the College Home Run Derby that airs on July 4 on ESPN.
