String of Garage Burglaries

It didn't take long for a neighborhood to discover it fell victim to string of break-ins.

"As the morning was going along we were all just kind of pointing at each other going 'You to?'," said one victim.

This homeowner was one of at least ten victims whose garage was broken into over night on March, 14th.

"Evidently they put a large bar here and broke the handle," said Mervin Vannier. His son's garage was broken into.

The crooks got in a few different ways, but the most frequent included prying open a side door. Once inside, they would grab what ever caught their eye. Tools and golf gear seemed to be most targeted.

The total cost of damage and stolen items is well in the thousands.

Police did make an arrest. They caught a 15 year-old boy in a stolen car. Inside the car were items from the burglaries.

Homeowners tell WOWT 6 News they want police to come down hard for this crime.

"I don't care if he is 15, I want him tried as an adult. It's not a little kid crime," said one victim.

An affidavit explains one of the ways police are trying to link the teen to the crime: a shoe print.

"They kicked in the garage door, and we looked and sure enough they left on of their tracks there so," said a homeowner with a door in his hands. On the door, a clear outline of a shoe.

If you own a detached garage, flood lights, dead bolts, and cameras can be a large deterrents for criminals.
