Strange Accident Finally Reported

Strange accident update. The report says the accident is still under investigation with charges pending.

The Cassgram describies how it happened to be reported. Just before 6pm Tuesday, Cass County Sheriff’s deputies, Weeping Water Rescue and Elmwood Rescue responded to unresponsive male party at 201 E. Eldora Street, Weeping Water. The 911 call came in to dispatch advising the male party had been involved in a one-vehicle rollover earlier in the day. Upon arrival, deputies said the male party, identified as Travis Melo, age 18, Manley, was conscious and alert but combative.

Sheriff Wm. C. Brueggemann said it was learned that at approximately 2pm earlier that day, near the intersection of 132nd Street and Adams Street, that Melo, Chase Bass, age 18 of Weeping Water, Caleb Stander, age 18 of Weeping Water and a juvenile, age 17 of Avoca, had been in the one vehicle rollover. The 17-year-old was the driver. With the help of a passerby, they were able to get the vehicle rolled back onto its wheels and drove the vehicle home.

Melo was transported to Midlands Hospital by Elmwood Rescue, the juvenile was transported to Midlands Hospital by Nehawka Rescue, Stander was transported to Syracuse Hospital by his parents and Bass signed off on rescue transport, said Brueggemann.
