Stolen Dog Returns Home

It's not exactly a Christmas miracle, but a dog believed to have been stolen has returned home.

His owners believe someone swiped Sonny from their back yard, but now the whole family has been reunited.

Sonny and Tucker love the snow and ice and romping around in the yard. Olivia and Gage are just happy Sonny has been returned. Their friend Alex rounds out the pack of kids and dogs stomping through the snow.

Clint Thomas says, "You lose a family member when you lose a dog. These aren't dogs like out on a farm where they're running around, those are family members too but when they live in your house with you they're a part of you."

That's why everyone in the Thomas home was upset last week when they discovered Sonny was missing. The gate hadn't been locked, but there was only a small space for the 7-year-old yellow lab to squeeze through.

Thomas doesn't think Sonny would run away, even if the gate was left open. "They've never done that. Even when the gates are open, when I'm mowing, they'll stay in the back unless I tell them to come they'll stay in the back. If I tell them to stay they will stay."

Sonny and Tucker are hunting dogs and Thomas says more obedient than many. That, coupled with the fact that the two dogs are constant companions and some evidence Tucker had been given food, leads him to only one conclusion.

"I feel someone may have been luring him maybe with food or maybe they had him and he just pulled away because he is a strong dog, he is almost 100 pounds."

The scare is leading to changes. The dogs will be watched closer while outside and they're getting tracking chips inserted in the next few days.
