A nearly three-hour standoff in Beatrice, Nebraska came to a peaceful end Thursday morning. Police say a man armed with two guns forced his way into a room at the Travelers Lodge motel where two women and a child were staying.

The suspect made several threats to shoot the three and himself before allowing the child and one of the women to leave. Police Chief Bruce Lang says the other woman escaped from the room shortly thereafter.

Lang says the women knew the man, Adam Wolken of Beatrice. "He had guns, so we brought our guns, but we had our K-9 units and one from the state patrol, so we were prepared for whatever came up."

Negotiators talked Wolken into surrendering around 2:45 a.m. A rifle and handgun were recovered.

One of the women later told police she and Wolken lived together and that he was upset about their relationship and threatened to shoot himself at their home Wednesday night. She said he also pointed a handgun at her while she was holding their 20-month-old son. She and the child went to the motel with another woman, but Wolken found them Thursday morning. She said he broke into their room and pointed a rifle at her.

Officers evacuated motel occupants after the standoff began. No one was injured.
