You can't miss them, the Millard West cheerleaders on the sidelines of Buell Stadium. They are loud and proud.

"Even when the game is going bad, we just have to cheer up the school. We're their leaders, we're showing them what to do," said senior cheerleader Katie Alexander.

But don't be fooled, every move they make in front of the crowd has been carefully practiced.

"We do practice 4 times a week, we practice two times at school and two times at Metro Star Gymnastics. Our practices are 2-3 hours at a time," said Alexander.

The hard work and long hours have paid off. The team has seven national championships, three consecutive. And they are hoping for a fourth this year.

"It's absolutely like a family, we work hard together, we spend so much time together, they're my sisters, I look forward to seeing them everyday," said Alexander.

While they admit cheering is serious competition, it's also a lot of fun.

"Work together as a team, always be outgoing to your crowd, always have a smile on your face," said junior cheerleader Rachel Lowe.

The cheer squad plans to compete at Nationals in February in Florida. They look forward to a chance at their fourth consecutive title, eighth overall.
