Spending By Visiting Nurse Services Questioned

Investigators have subpoenaed records of the Visiting Nurse Services of Iowa.

The Des Moines Register says $52,000 in spending on the service's elderly waiver program is being questioned.

That program provides services to lower-income senior citizens.

Visiting Nurse Services is privately run, but it gets tax dollars and it gets some funding from United Way.

Polk County and the federal government provided more than $3.5 million to the agency for central Iowa health services in 2009.

The agency's executive director, Jen Van Liew, says it's her understanding that investigators are making sure the elderly waiver program services were provided.

She says the agency has documentation to prove they were.
