Streets in south Omaha are open again after being closed for several hours Thursday morning due to a natural gas leak.
Firefighters were called to investigate the smell of natural gas near 29th and Q streets just after 3 a.m. Streets were closed and traffic diverted around the area for three hours while crews tried to find the source of the leak. They eventually tracked the problem to a corroded gas main at 26th and O Street.
Metropolitan Utilities District crews were called and shut down the gas main. Service was restored by 2:45 p.m. Thursday.
