If you were out shopping Friday, hope you found some big discounts. It can be quite a challenge to get one and several shoppers walked away empty-handed after a misunderstanding.

It was a cold and windy morning for shoppers waiting outside Dick Blick Art Supplies at 78th and Dodge in Omaha. "We stayed in the car most the time, then this lady came at 1, so we got in line,” said Alta-Jo Norviel. Her friend Caren was waiting in line. The big draw was a free bag of art supplies. “Art’s like my passion so I just made her come here.”

An ad indicated there were only 10 per store, but when the store manager arrived, these girls learned one more detail. “I was angry, I was like no, I literally got up from taking a quick nap.” They said they were told only one bag per family. “She told them that they had to be 18 for one thing.”

The girls called Channel 6 News to complain about the problem before the store opened. Others had a similar problem. “We got here at 11 o'clock because we'd seen an ad about the first 10 people getting a bag of free art supplies, only to be told you had to be 18 and one per family,” said Katie Aken.

Kyle Tibbles was in the car warming up when the vouchers were passed out. "Because I was freezing cold because I've been here all night and I guess I got kicked out of line.”

The manager could not go on camera, but she told Channel 6 News the first 10 people in line got a voucher. If you weren't standing in line or you were after the 10th person, you didn't get a bag. She said no one was denied a bag because of their age.

“It says the first 10 guests will receive a tote worth $50 loaded with art material, that's how the ad reads.” Proving that sometimes, Black Friday deals only sound best in print. “We kinda came here for nothing.”

That wasn't the only spot customers didn't get what they expected. Hundreds of shoppers lined up at Sears Thursday night for a TV sale, only to find out they only had four vouchers, which was explained in its ad.
