All that snow and ice mixed with sand and salt can take a toll on your vehicle. It's giving one Omaha body shop a lot of business.

“It's very busy right now,” says Jim Champion at Charlie Graham. It's the time of year when this happens. When the snow falls the business flows at Charlie Graham. “Mostly we're getting collision repair cars in, so it's very busy with little fender bender-type items.”

It's not limited to that. Champion says the icy roads are also bringing vehicles in. “Plowing through deep ice because there are things underneath here that can be damaged.” He says the snow and ice can also rip parts underneath a vehicle and damage bumpers, too. “Just kind of physically look at your vehicle.”

Walking around your vehicle, checking the tires to make sure the tread hasn't worn down too far, are good habits to get into before you get behind the wheel. But chances are, if there’s any damage, you'll know. “The steering wheel might be off center or it might be pulling one way or another or you might get kind of a wobble in your steering wheel.”

That will call for a realignment job, not uncommon after a few snowfalls. “Over time, going over those big, hard bumps, it's gonna knock your car out of alignment and just wear parts out.”

Either way, he says be careful and make sure your vehicle is safe to drive. Worn tires can cause traction problems, often times leading to an accident.
