Small businesses in Omaha could be growing after making new contacts on Thursday. The second annual Small Business Expo was held at Benson High School.

The event, sponsored by the city of Omaha, gives small businesses and prime contractors the opportunity to network and build contacts. Dozens of contractors were represented. Seminars were also offered for business owners.

The city hopes events like this can help build the economy. “It's to benefit the small businesses, to make them have opportunity for growth and to increase,” said the city’s Rhonda Uher. “If their small businesses increase then employment also increases."

The program also gives small businesses assistance in obtaining city contracts. In 2012, the city gave nearly $13 million in contracts to small businesses.
