In one west Omaha neighborhood, there is only one way in and out due to construction. Frustrated drivers say even that's become a rough ride -- and asked Fact Finders to investigate.

If Judy Flower wants to take her grandchildren swimming -- she has to take a dip. "It just keeps sinking down and sinking down."

Corby Street near 143rd has developed a fat lip.

Reporter: "What are you worried about?"
Flower: "The street falling in with me or my family in it."

The city says the sewer line underneath is fine -- but for an unknown reason, about a hundred foot section of Corby Street is not on solid ground.

Some residents say that just a few months ago, one street panel had sank an inch. Look at it now. It's at least iPhone deep.

People living or visiting in the Autumn Heights neighborhood worry about car damage or worse.

Driver: "It was scarier for me when school was in because I thought of a school bus ending up going down with this thing"

The street has been on the city's repair list but there's no easy fix because construction on 144th has made Corby the only way in and out of the neighborhood.

"We have extra traffic with 144th closed," said one neighbor, "And that's more of a problem -- so it's significantly worse than it was a few months ago"

After emails from Fact Finders, the City of Omaha put replacement of the panels on a fast track.

A street maintenance engineer who looked at the street and is concerned about the cavity underneath.

There's no indication a collapse is imminent but Public Works will replace the street panels on Wednesday and reopen Corby by Monday.

That means neighborhood drivers will have to deal with a detour for a few more days.
