A bold daylight robbery of a convenience store has police looking for a suspect.
For the second time in three days, the Kwik Shop at 36th and Leavenworth was robbed at gunpoint.
Neighbors are hoping this is not the beginning of a downturn in an area on the rise.
Mary Blankenship has seen a lot of changes from her flower shop window at 35th and Leavenworth.
But she wasn't prepared for what she saw this morning.
"The Kwik Shop's been robbed and it was 9AM this morning," she said. "The guy has a shot gun and somebody told me get back in your shop and lock the door, there's somebody running around the neighborhood with a shotgun."
Police were quickly on the scene and started scouring the area southeast of 36th and Leavenworth.
They believe the suspect ran down an alley and may have hidden in a house nearby.
"We probably have over five police cars in the area looking for him," Omaha Police Sergeant Bart LeClere said.
But the suspect got away.
The boldness of a daylight robbery by a shotgun toting man unnerves Chad Turco who lives nearby.
"I don't know what to see done," he said. "There's nothing you can do, I mean, the police are everywhere. They can't control it."
"It's kind of scary, " Mary said. "A wake up call."
Mary says this mini-robbery spree is not a true indicator of the area.
"I've seen the neighborhood turn around now we're working on classing up the block and this stuff has to happen but it happens everywhere," she said.
Mary says new businesses and an influx of artists in recent years indicates the area holds potential.
"There's more pedestrian traffic and bicycle traffic so I don't know...let's hope."
Mary believes hope and a little determination will keep the area moving forward.
"Yeah, it's worth staying and a few bad apples aren't going to upset the crate in this neighborhood," she said.
Omaha Police believe the same man robbed the same store last Saturday.
They are checking the store's video and interviewing witnesses.
