Two people were taken to the hospital with life threatening injuries after an early morning shooting in South Omaha. Omaha police have identified the two as 22-year-old Stevie Goin and 21-year-old Zach Ricard.
Goin and Ricard remain in critical condition.
Investigators focused their search in and around a corner apartment at 41st & D streets. The double shooting occurred just before 5 o'clock Monday morning.
Around 7 a.m. Monday, officers expanded the scene to include parts of "D" Street, blocking it off from 41st to 40th.
According to initial radio reports one victim was shot at least once in the chest and the other was shot in the shoulder.
Neighbors who live in the Village Gate Apartment complex described hearing what at first they believed were fireworks, but quickly realized the sounds originated from a gun.
A mother of two, whose unit overlooks "D" Street, said the gunshots rattled her out of bed because the sound was “so loud.” She then said a vehicle peeled out, and away from the scene shortly after the initial gunfire. That's when residents in the complex could hear him moaning and screaming as he tried to run to his personal car.
Rescue crews found the man outside and put him into an ambulance further to the east from the initial address police were called to. The woman was put into an ambulance in the parking lot o f the complex.
Police have not made any arrests, but they are looking for a white Chevy Avalanche seen leaving the scene.
No additional information about any suspects or the victims' identities are available.
