Shoe Store Gone

A long time Omaha shoe store that specialized in orthotics has closed without notice. An elderly customer paid $300 for shoes she needs, but the order hasn’t been delivered in six weeks.

The customer’s daughter Kerrie Kleppin-Winn said, “She walks in pain all the time. Supposedly this comfort orthotics especially for her foot were going to help that.”

The Arnie Mattson Shoe store is locked and empty with no sign on the door. A voice message only says the store is no longer located at the address just north of 76th and Dodge in Omaha.

Jim Hegarty of the Better Business Bureau said, “To lead people into believing that maybe you are still in business or going to re-emerge somewhere else I don’t is helpful.”

Six On Your Side found a cell phone number for the owner of the shoe store. Terry Troxel said the economy forced him to close the store that's been in business for more than 70 years.

Troxel said, “All orders that anybody prepaid for will be taken care of. Everything will be mailed out to everybody.” Troxel apologized for not sending out Sherrie Kleppin’s order. He claims orders and products got mixed up in the move out.

The landlord said the move was sudden and much like in the middle of the night. Kerrie Kleppin-Winn said, “Let us know what’s going on. Are we getting our stuff? If not then give us our money back.”
