Sheriff: Man Who Led 130 MPH Chase was Drunk

Authorities in southeast Nebraska say a 19-year old man led a 20 mile high speed chase Friday morning while drunk. Jacob T. Wissler was arrested after leading Beatrice Police and Gage County Deputies on the pursuit.

The pursuit began at 3:11 a.m. after a deputy and officer observed a Ford Mustang GT traveling at a high rate of speed on West Court Street and Veterans Memorial Drive in Beatrice.

The driver refused to pull over. Authorities say during the pursuit, the driver displayed, “A willful disregard for public safety” while reaching speeds of 130 MPH. The driver lost control and entered a ditch while attempting to turn east onto State Highway 8 from State Highway 112. Wissler and his passenger were not injured.

Wissler was arrested for flight to avoid arrest, reckless driving, driving under the influence of alcohol, being a minor in possession of alcohol, speeding, violating a stop sign, and failing to signal a turn.
