A 30-year-old man who had been living in the south central Nebraska city of Cozad has been sentenced for failing to register in Nebraska as a sex offender.
Lexington radio station KRVN reports (http://bit.ly/S0KIFi) that Shawn Cryts was given 16 months in prison on Thursday. He must also serve five years of supervised release after leaving prison.
Prosecutors say Cryts was required to register as a sex offender because he'd been convicted in July 2003 of attempted aggravated sexual battery in Dyer County, Tenn.
Cryts was arrested in November 2011 after police in Kearney, Neb., received information that he was working in Kearney and that there was no record in Tennessee or Nebraska that he had reported his change of address or employment.
