The Justice Department has reached a settlement in a lawsuit against a management company in a dispute over residential leases to members of the U.S. Air Force assigned to Offutt Air Force Base.

Empirian Property Management Inc. was accused of refusing to
terminate leases after they received a permanent change of station
orders.

The lawsuit claimed the Delaware-based company violated the
Service members Civil Relief Act by refusing to allow service men
and women to terminate their leases early to comply with their
military orders.

The Justice Department says Thursday that Empirian must pay
$12,500 in damages to four identified service members and up to
$20,000 to compensate any additional service members harmed by its actions.

The settlement must be approved by a federal court in Nebraska.
