The remains of a World War II veteran missing for 69 years are back in his southern Iowa hometown. A graveside service was held Saturday morning for U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Robert "Bobby" Howard just north of Moulton.

Howard was 21 years old in April 1945 when his aircraft was shot down over Germany. He and four other crew members were officially declared dead, though their remains weren't recovered. A research and analysis group concluded earlier this year that human remains found near the possible aircraft crash site belong to Howard.

Saturday's service at Sunset View Cemetery was held with full military honors provided by the Iowa National Guard.
