School District Bans Driver, Family Gets Protection Order

A concerned viewer asked Channel 6 News to look into a day care bus driver who has been barred from Millard Public Schools. The family of an elementary age student made a complaint against the 19-year old and we've been investigating this story for several weeks.

This involves a Reeder Elementary School student and a driver from her day care. The family now has a protection order against him.

On September 13th, the family of the girl came across a letter written by the driver and given to their 6-year-old daughter. It contains lines that read, "I wish I could be with you...I will never move forward in life until you are caught up...I wake up every morning only hoping to see you...Of my 19 years on earth, you are the most beautiful part of my life...Not seeing you destroys my life...I fatally fear not being part of your life."

The letter came with the instructions, according to the protection order, to "hide" it from her parents. The girl's family used this letter, along with the claim the 19-year-old ate lunch with the 6-year-old without their knowledge, as reasons for the protection order.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Department is investigating and tells Channel 6 News "There's not enough evidence to pursue criminal charges at this time."

On September 17th, Millard Public Schools sent him a letter saying his contact with the student was "egregiously inappropriate" and barred him from any Millard school property or school sponsored event. We've been told the 19-year-old is no longer employed by the day care. From what we could tell his record is clean.

School officials say that “as soon as Millard becomes aware of any situation that could affect safety, we take all appropriate and precautions necessary."
