Last week's mass shooting in Connecticut has many on edge, particularly students and school staff. Construction workers at East Elementary School in Ankeny, Iowa hope to finish the noisiest part of their work during the holiday break to avoid making sounds that might seem like gunshots during class hours.
Sensitivity to the Sandy Hook Elementary School killings prompted project manager Chad Chris of Story Construction to relocate workers while classes were in session.
Chris says crews will work every day but Christmas to stay on schedule and get most of the noisy work competed before students return in January. Chris, who has a 4-year-old son, says making sure students and staff feel safe is important.
