Kids nationwide rushed to their favorite comic book dealer for Saturday’s Free Comic Book Day. Those going to Omaha’s Krypton Comics got a bonus, the chance to meet Superman himself.

Actor Brandon Routh, who was born in Des Moines and grew up in nearby Norwalk, Iowa, played the Man of Steel in the 2006 film “Superman Returns." He said he had a blast visiting the store at 125th and Elm Plaza to promote the event.

“It's awesome, I think it's a great way to get kids involved in comics and reading period. I perused a lot of the free comic books and there's a lot of stuff for the youngsters."

Routh spent eight hours at Krypton Comics, talking with fans, posing for pictures and signing autographs.
