Retail Sales In Smaller Communities Show Boost

Retail sales south of the metro showing good signs. April were a bit higher than last year’s totals -- The Nebraska Department of Revenue’s Net Taxable Sales Report, comparing April 2013 to April 2012, shows Cass County with a 2.2% increase to $8,798,290. In the Plattsmouth city limits, April sales were up 2.7% to $4,219,783.

(Coincidentally, the March ’13 report showed the same percentages, but on the negative side: Cass County had a 2.2% sales decrease and Plattsmouth experienced a 2.7% decrease over a year earlier.)

The Cassgram reports Statewide, April 2013 sales were 5.2% higher than in 2012.

The April report for neighboring counties: Otoe [+2.3%], Lancaster [+1.1%], Saunders [+2.2%] and Sarpy [+22.1%].

Nearby cities: Ashland [-0.4%], Bellevue [+1.0%], Nebraska City [-0.4%], Papillion [+69.1%], Springfield [-12.4%] and Syracuse [+2.8%].

---The NDR’s April Net Taxable Motor Vehicle Sales Report said Cass County was down 15.9% when compared to the same month in 2012. Taxable motor vehicle sales totaled $4,323,522.

Statewide vehicle sales were up 6.0%.
