A man was helped from the Missouri River Tuesday afternoon near Rick's Cafe Boatyard. It was not really a river rescue so much as a river incident.
Witnesses tell Channel 6 reporter Lauren Squires that the man appeared to be impaired when he went into the water by himself. Police radio reports from the scene say the man climbed a fence.
It's not clear who actually called 911 but when rescue personnel arrived the man was not that far from shore and he came back to the bank under his own power.
As he neared the shore a couple of rescue personnel waded into the water and threw the man a rope and a life jacket.
The man was taken away in a rescue squad but by all accounts did not appear to have any injuries.
