A busy west Omaha intersection will be improved, but the reconstruction is several years away.
Omaha public works officials unveiled plans to widen both Blondo and 156th streets. Both are now two lanes and very congested during rush hour.
Last night neighbors and drivers who go that way everyday had a chance to look at plans for a $15 million dollar project. It includes making both 156th and Blondo four lanes. However the project isn’t scheduled to begin until 2015. A bike path is also included along Blondo from about 144th street west.
Concerns of some neighbors include detouring traffic through neighborhoods during construction. City officials say that will be watched during the construction period.
More detailed plans are being developed that will include a more precise time table for the project.
