Some consumers swore by them, others swore at them. The FTC said Reebok’s used deceptive claims when it sold EasyTone & RunTone shoes to the public. The shoemaker has agreed to pay $25 million in customer refunds.

The shoes were designed to mimic walking in the stand to help tone the hips, legs and buttocks. As part of the settlement, Reebok is barred from making any claims of the strengthening effects of the products unless Reebok can back those claims by scientific evidence.
