Red Cross Hero: Lily Dotson

A young girl will be honored next week by the American Red Cross for her dedication to getting others to donate blood.

Lily Dotson, 6, is a year-and-a-half into her leukemia treatments.

Susie Dotson/Mom: "She's had more than a dozen transfusion."
Lily: "How many shots again?"
Mom: "You got one hundred shots."

The details are hard to ignore. Every month she gets her blood tested.

"Just trying to keep her healthy...seems to be magnified 100 times because of her condition," said her father David Dotson.

She won't be done with treatment until next year.

"You take it for granted that the blood is going to be there," said Susie.

A cousin came up with the idea for bracelets with Lily's name on it as a way to support her and the cancer fight.
She's been a cheerleader to get others to donate blood ever since.

"The blood saved her life and we're just trying to pay it forward and help others," said mom.
