The U.S. Transportation Secretary delays plans to mandate rearview cameras in all passenger vehicles.
Secretary Ray Lahood is delaying the mandate until later this year-saying more study and data analyses needs to be done-to ensure the most "protective and efficient rule possible."
The rearview camera requirement is intended to protect children and other pedestrians from being hit by vehicles when drivers are backing up.
More than 200 people die annually when drivers accidentally run over them when backing up.
