Ralston Teachers File For Early Retirement
Ralston's Superintendent says the Board of Education is "on target" to soon determine how many school workers will lose their jobs this year.
January 4th was the final date for teachers to apply for a voluntary separation program. Thursday, Superintendent Mark Adler told Channel Six 10 teachers applied for the early retirement program.
When the program was offered three years ago, 17 applied.
Dr. Adler says 10 is a good number, and that the district will be losing "quality people," if the applications are accepted.
The Board aims to have a number of necessary staff reductions sometime in February. Board members will have to consider how the separation program will impact staffing, before coming up with a number. It's possible the district will need to hire new teachers, as they let some go.
Ralston is working through a significant budget shortfall. Faculty and staff were made aware of upcoming layoffs via a letter from the superintendent sent out the day before Thanksgiving.
