Raising Awareness About Homeless Teens

November is homeless awareness month and one group made an effort to remind all of us that there are homeless teenagers who need our help.

Youth Emergency Services hit high traffic areas to highlight the plight of homeless teens in the area. Signs were at seven street corners around Omaha. Organizers say they hope the honks of appreciation from passing cars carry a message home.

“It's great, it's great. We want to raise awareness, we want to get people home, start talking about it with their family and have those conversations. What can we do to help? How can we volunteer, what can we do to make a difference in our community,” said Mary Fraser Meints.

YES says more than 400 teenagers were living on the streets in Omaha last year.
