In an effort to educate the public about grade crossing and pedestrian safety, UP established the Union Pacific’s Crossing Accident Reduction Education and Safety (UP CARES) program the railroad company said in a release Thursday.
To facilitate this, UP is inviting local media to ride along in the cab of a locomotive with Union Pacific Railroad Police next week, along with area law enforcement officers while they take train rides to observe motorists’ behavior at highway-railroad grade crossings.
Union Pacific said it is committed to public safety through various outreach channels such as community events, media, Union Pacific Railroad police, employee resource groups and Operation Lifesaver.
