Those who drove by Children's Hospital and Medical Center around the lunch hour on Sunday had to wonder about the display in the parking lot.
Some local NHRA race car drivers brought their souped up rides to the facility to give some young patients a chance to see them up close.
Seven-year-old Brody Schmidt of Fairbury actually had the chance to sit in the cockpit of a Funny Car that can reach speeds over 250mph.
"I felt kind of like a race car driver," he told WOWT 6 News from his hospital bed. "That's the fastest car I think I've ever seen!"
Brody was so excited about the opportunity his Dad bought Brody some toy race cars at the gift shop when the visit was over.
There were 6 super-charged cars on display including several that are driven by the Rose Racing Team of Sioux City and Omaha.
"They all wanted to know how fast the cars could go," said Chuck Rose of Sioux City. Rose has been drag racing for over 40 years and he was pleased with the response of the young patients and their families.
"We also had some of the drivers go up to the rooms and visit with some of the Children and we also left some toys and stuff on each floor's respective toy room..so hopefully bring some joy to the children."
The drivers are already talking about a return visit to Children's Hospital and Medical Center next fall.
