The principal at Central Park Elementary has been gone from school for a couple weeks, and the reasoning behind the absence remains unclear.
Principal Mary Austin remains an employee, according to an OPS spokesperson. She's been the principal at Central Park since 1998.
An OPS spokesperson also tells Channel 6 that they cannot discuss the reasons she is not there for personal privacy.
The head of the Omaha Education Association, Chris Proulx, said, "I found out she was not at Central Park a couple weeks ago. It appears to be related to a student discipline matter."
Pam Lang, who retired last year from Adams Elementary, is now the substitute principal at Central Park.
It is unclear when or if Austin will return.
