Prepaid Cab Card Is A Ride In Your Pocket

You’ve probably heard the expression "friends don't let friends drive drunk." Now there's an easier way to do that before any one takes a sip. A prepaid cab card is now on sale at Sac Credit Union locations in the metro.

Garrett Mitchell's parents own Happy Cab. The 17-year-old says these prepaid cards aren't just a smart buy for adults, but also teenagers.

“I think it’s going to be a great program for kids my age because it’s going to give them a ride home without them having to call their parents if they're in a situation they don't want to call their parents."

“It’s prepaid so if you don't use it there it’s not good anyplace else and so you have no excuse,” says Sarpy County Sheriff Jeff Davis. “If you're at that point where you think I should get a ride home then your ride is in your pocket."

Sheriff Davis came up with the idea for the "I Care Cab Fare Program.” Happy Cab and Sac Credit Union are offering the prepaid cards for 20 percent off as we head into the holiday season. That's usually a busy time for drunken driving arrests.

The cards will not be used to track people who have been drinking. The card can be used throughout the metro.
