Des Moines police are awaiting the return of a person of interest in connection with the slaying of a pregnant 18-year-old. Raymond Benitez was detained at a border crossing to Mexico near Brownsville, Texas Friday night because of a material witness warrant.
Police want to question Benitez about Judy VanLo, whose body was found last Sunday. A friend of VanLo's, Fernando Lara, said Benitez was VanLo's boyfriend and the father of her unborn child.
The cause of VanLo's death has not been released.
