High school students put their engineering and math skills to the test Saturday in the Power Drive Program.
Students from Nebraska, Iowa and Kansas built safe, energy-efficient electric vehicles that competed in the Werner Park parking lot to determine who built the best one.
“It's a lot of fun, that's part of it,” said Elkhorn High School graduate Ayrton Kuzela. “Also, you learn a ton. I kind of joked that I learned more in Power Drive for four years than I did in all my high school career."
40 cars took part in the event, but 50 schools took part in the program this year. Some decided not to travel because of the bad weather.
2013 overall state Power Drive Champions:
Standard class, Elkhorn
Advanced class, Wayne High
The winner's were decided by the race, documentation, endurance, design and engineering.
