The most exciting race of the Primary Election is likely District 7 for City Council. Current President Thomas Mulligan was upset and finished in third.

Attorney Aimee Melton led the group of five candidates with 39 percent of the vote. Tim Lonergan finished second with 28 percent of the vote and Mulligan finished third with 21 percent.

As Channel 6 News previously reported, Lonergan received a huge influx of campaign cash last month. A political fundraising arm of the Omaha Firefighters Union gave him $25,000 for the final run.

Lonergan, who runs a lawn care company, will face Melton in the May General Election. Only the top two vote-getters move forward.
