Pools Open Early

The hot, humid weather had thousands across the Heartland looking for a little relief on the unofficial start of summer.

Families packed up and headed for Metro lakes or rivers but pools were also an option this Memorial Day Weekend.

Several pools in the area opened early to provide relief from the sweltering temperatures.

The news spread quickly that Oak Hill Pool in Ralston had opened early and the families started showing up.

The pool manager expects a big year and if today is any indication this summer is going to be hot and humid and local pools can expect to see a lot of crowds.

This is just the first of many trips brothers Jordan and Brandon will take to the pool with their grandmother and little sister.

The boys love the water and now that Brandon can swim there is so much more to enjoy at the pool.

Brandon Ferro says, "This is our play bag and there is a big rocket and there are things you throw in the water and have to get them.”

Others take a more relaxed approach to their time at the pool. Whether you are a "lounger," or diving off the board and running to get back in line, this could be a big year for pools in the Metro area.

The mid-summer heat has arrived and opened a number of local pools.

Zach Lahm says, “Usually we open around Memorial Day, usually it is Memorial Day but if it is warm like it is this year we'll open the Saturday before like today."

That's okay with Jordan and Brandon although Brandon would like a little warmer water for the rest of the swim season his brother Jordan would like to change something else.

Jordan Hudson says, "They've got a rest break in the pool. They blow the whistle and no kids can swim only the adults."
Reporter asks, "And that's the down time?"
Jordan responds, "Umm hmm."

Grandma will see that the kids get as much time in the pool as possible but with that will come the mandatory rest breaks and plenty of sunscreen so they can keep coming back.

This is a case of social media making a difference. Most of the people at the pool learned it would be open today from Facebook.
