A police standoff in Omaha ended peacefully Thursday night. A man barricaded himself in his home near 61st and Evans for 4 1/2 hours. Investigators thought he might be armed with a high-powered rifle.

Around 5:30pm, animal control officers with the Nebraska Humane Society went to the residence to issue several violations for his dog including no license or rabies vaccination.

The man came to the door and police say he made threatening comments before going back inside, so the Humane Society called for backup.

Eventually, the Douglas County Emergency Response Unit negotiated with the man who was also wanted for making terroristic text threats in Blair last month. It's not clear how much of that was known to investigators early on.

"Come on Andy. Come on buddy. Come to the door. We want to know if you're okay?" shouted the negotiator over a megaphone. "We're not going to hurt you."

"He makes a lot of threats but he doesn't want to follow through," said his neighbor and ex-girlfriend Kelsey Stratman during the standoff. "I'm worried for him. He needs help. I wish he would come outside."
