Omaha police are investigating an officer involved shooting near 42nd and Spaulding. The man shot by police has been identified as 31-year-old Tyree Bell.

His fiance, Labette Spracher spoke with Channel Six hours after the shooting happened. She says she's still trying to comprehend the situation that led up to Bell's death.

"Knowing that I never got to hug him never got say bye, or hug, that last kiss, nothing, I can't explain it."

Police showed up to the house after getting called about an armed disturbance involving the couple. Bell had a shotgun.

That's when Spracher says she ran out of the house. Minutes later officers pulled their three-year-old daughter from the home.

Police negotiators spent the next two hours talking with Bell. They say he was making threatening and suicidal statements.

Spracher says she could see the situation deteriorate from the back of a police car.

She says during the ordeal, her fiance came in and out of the home at least five times unarmed. She claims her fiance was mentally ill and asked police if she could try and talk him down.

"He's letting them know I'm not armed, I'm not armed they could have taken him down then. He came sat on the steps, was talking, by the door talking walked in the middle of the yard and was talking," says Spracher.

Eventually, Bell came out with a gun in one hand and their three-year-old son in the other. After putting his son down, at least four officers fired.

He was pronounced dead a short time later at CUMC.

Police will release additional details Wedensday morning, when the Chief of Police holds a press conference.
