An Omaha police officer was one of three drivers involved in a crash Tuesday afternoon at 29th and St. Marys Ave.

Police investigators at the scene say the driver of a red Suzuki ran a stop sign and hit another car. That second car, a Camry, then collided with a police cruiser.

An eyewitness at the scene told Channel 6 Reporter John Chapman that it appeared the police cruiser had been moving quickly through traffic -- weaving in and out -- without lights and sirens. Police later confirmed the officer was headed to an abduction call at UNMC that turned out to be false. The cruiser's lights and siren were not on but police point out the crash was caused by the Suzuki running the stop sign.

Two people suffered minor injuries, one of whom was the police officer. The two were taken to the hospital.

No names or conditions had been released by 2:30 Tuesday afternoon.
