Monday night many gathered in Omaha to pay tribute to the career of law enforcement officers and remember those who have been killed in the line of duty.
The event was called "Walking the Beat" and was part of National Police Memorial Week. Officers from Omaha, Douglas, and Sarpy counties and some of their families walked from the Omaha police department downtown through the Old Market.
The event ended with a prayer vigil for those fallen. Omaha Police Chief Todd Schmaderer said, “Often times we forget that it's these officers, these men and women that put their lives on the line every night and it's important to honor that if for no other reason just to remember the fallen and remember what takes place on a day to day basis with law enforcement."
