Independence Day celebrations are mostly explosive, but Thursday in the metro, several communities took the opportunity to parade down the streets.
First thing in the morning, the Field Club neighborhood started its celebration strong.
Dozens of floats, old cars, and other performers took a couple of laps around the neighborhood for a parade.
The Griffith's love seeing friends in the small neighborhood event, and always dress the part.
“I look forward to every holiday, but the 4th, I just like it best. It's one of my favorites,” said Erica Griffith, one youth watching.
Later in the afternoon in Ralston, began what the chamber says is the largest parade in Nebraska.
Kids like Maddox Courch couldn't believe it.
“I've never seen one this big and this entertaining,” he said.
Kids say the parade didn't disappoint.
There were Shriners with little cars, giant flags, kids got pictures with their favorite movie heroes, and marching bands rocked the streets.
Of course, the best part of the parade for the kids was going for the candy.
Skylar Albert scooped up every piece she could.
"Because candy is delicious," she said.
Ralston also put on a fireworks show Thursday night.
