Papillion Fire Dept. Hosts Community Appreciation Day

The Papillion Fire Department hosted it's annual Community appreciation day Sunday. Hundreds showed up for the event. The department told WOWT 6 News it is a way for the department to show how grateful they are for the community's support, while also teaching children fire safety rules.

The event has been going on for decades in Papillion. It started at 8 am with a pancake breakfast and lasted until 1 pm. Balloonists and Face Painters were on hand to provide entertainment for the children.

The children were also able to take tours of the fire truck, see a helicopter used in emergency situations, try on child-sized fire gear, watch a demonstration with the "Jaws of Life," and attend a short class on fire safety rules.
