Owner Of Flooring Business Indicted For Embezzlement

A Nebraska businessman faces a federal charge for allegedly pocketing $59,000 from employee paychecks that was supposed to go into their pension funds or toward insurance premiums.

An indictment was issued Wednesday for 61-year-old Richard Odermatt, of Ashland, on one count of embezzlement. Odermatt is the owner of Odermatt Floor Covering Inc.

The filing in U.S. District Court in Omaha says Odermatt withheld money from employee paychecks between April 2009 and last July and used it for other things.

Odermatt is due in court May 14. Court records don't list his attorney.

A number for his business was not taking calls on Friday. A message left at a home number listed for Odermatt wasn't immediately returned.

Odermatt faces up to five years in prison and $250,000 in fines if convicted.
