Parents considering Open Enrollment for their child during the 2014-2015 school year are encouraged to schedule school tours soon. Learning Community staff recommends that parents visit schools to find the right fit for their child.
Kindergarten through 12th grade students in Douglas and Sarpy counties can apply to schools in the 11 public school districts. The Open Enrollment process is easy.
Parents can apply online or print an application from the Learning Community website to submit by mail or in person to the school district office(s) of their preferred school(s). Since school district offices are closed March 15 this year, parents applying in person should drop off applications by 5 p.m. on March 14. Parents applying for Open Enrollment are welcome to use computers and internet free of charge at public libraries and the Urban League of Nebraska.
The goal of Open Enrollment is to increase educational opportunity for children living in poverty throughout Douglas and Sarpy counties. Students with siblings attending the same school receive Open Enrollment priority, followed by students who contribute to the socioeconomic diversity of the school.
Schools notify families of Open Enrollment decisions by April 5.
