A man died and two people were injured after shots were fired at their car that crashed Saturday morning. A fourth person in the vehicle was identified on Wednesday.
It happened at North 37th and Pratt streets in Omaha where shots were fired at the vehicle just before 2:30 a.m. The car then crashed into a barricade near 37th Street and Bedford Avenue.
Twenty-one-year-old LaDontae Daugherty was shot and died at the Nebraska Medical Center. Twenty-two-year-old Nelson Daugherty and 20-year-old Kieresha Mudd are in serious condition, expected to recover. Police found a dozen bullet holes in the side of the car and a broken back window.
On Wednesday, police identified a fourth occupant of the vehicle as 19-year-old Alejandra Vasquez. She was not injured.
Jo Perry and her daughter heard the crash and immediately ran outside. “They wanted someone to call 911. They were so upset they didn't realize they were already on the phone with 911."
"One of the women shouted we need help," said Jo Perry Jr.
Josephine Volk has lived in the neighborhood for 50 years and said this was the first time anything like this happened so close to her home. "We don't have much of this racket around here like it is. We're in a pretty safe neighborhood. Everybody thinks we're in a bad neighborhood, but we're not."
A possible suspect vehicle has been identified as a white or gray SUV.
